There is a wide mix of water use on farms from non potable activities such as yard and plant wash down, sprayer use, slurry flushing, irrigation and some livestock drinking. Whilst some of these uses require water of a potable quality, others do not. You might be able to make your potable use more efficient and you might be able to use lower cost alternative supplies, saving you money. There are several alternative options such as rainwater harvesting from large roof areas, the drilling of a bore-hole, or the pumping to high level storage of natural water using the zero energy cost PAPA pump. In some cases grants may be available.
"The PAPA pump fills my water tank at the top of our land some 150 feet above the stream. It then supplies 25 drinkers across our 250 acre farm. The system has paid for itself innumerable times through water savings and man hours." Gerald Thorne, West Panson Farm
Source for Business can help you to find the most cost effective solution with the fastest payback. Plus the additional benefits can be widespread. Livestock moved away from watercourses stay healthier; there are environmental benefits to the watercourse itself; pastures unusable because of the previous difficulty in providing a water supply can now be opened up for wider use; there will be downstream environmental benefits to the water catchment.
